Brands That Stand For Something

Madhappy, a company that is grounded on the importance of mental health and optimism. .

"At Madhappy, we're on a mission to make the world a more

optimistic place. We do this by producing impactful products and

experiences that create conversation around mental health."

Their story: "We are an inclusive community of local optimists. We host digital experiences, like our Local Optimist publication to give a platform to mental health. We host physical experiences around the world. Come join our community of high quality product, immersive spaces, and optimistic programming."

I myself can speak of their quality. I absolutely love the fabric and the colors which they dye themselves. Then they have their stitching on the hoodie which is unique to their brand. I love how they frequently come out with new designs for their hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, and shirts. They are so different and are nothing like anything that I have ever seen.

Isle of Eden: This New Zealand-owned sunglasses company that strives to create a great pair of sunglasses, but still leaves a minimal impact on the environment.

"Our mission is to create high-quality eyewear that not only looks great on you, but that you can also feel good about wearing. We are always working on ways to reduce our environmental footprint, from sourcing eco-friendly and recycled materials, to optimising our supply chain and shipping methods. This world we live in is a beautiful place. Let’s keep it that way."

I love this business because they are owned and operated by family, and this is one of my most important values. Family is everything to me. Isle of Eden is dedicated to try and make sure that this is the last pair of sunglasses that you will ever buy. "We don’t believe in fast fashion, which is why we take the utmost care in creating our eyewear, from using high-quality polarized lenses, handmade Italian Mazzucchelli bio-acetates, reinforced temples, and 5-7 barrel rubber coated screws."

EB Denim: I am majoring in Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation and have a dream to create my own company, as far as what in? That's still undecided. I love to support young entrepreneurs with growing businesses, especially local ones. EB Denim handpicks Levi's and reconstructs them. I love jeans, especially ones that I have never seen before.

"EB Denim reconstructs vintage, "made in America" Levi 501s. We are known for our extremely flattering fit which makes your A$$ look out of this world. Each pair of jeans is made with love as we handpick and size them one by one. Please take note not one pair of jeans will be the exact same. EB Denim is a small brand based out of Southern California and founded by a young female entrepreneur with a passion for sustainable fashion."

Mirae Paris: I first discovered this brand in Paris's new Galeries Lafayette Champs Elysee when I was there for Spring Break in 2019. I fell in love with a silk navy dress with white polka dots, but could not find my size anywhere. We were leaving that same day, so my only option was to try and find it online. When I found their website, their shipping cost 75 euros which I didn't want to pay for shipping. My dad was heading to London in a few weeks and he said I could ship it to his friend's house there and he would pick it up. Now shipping is 25 euros which is way better than before and I will definitely be buying clothing from here again.

They use raw materials and less waste. "Our values - ecology, respect, natural. We want to follow our fabrics, our manufacturers, our suppliers, our sourcers, our cutters. We all want to know them and we all know them. When you're close, you feel better. Just proud of work well done."

Sporty & Rich: "Sporty and Rich began as a mood board for life; a collection of images from past and present that represent a life surrounded by surrounded by beauty. It soon expanded into a print magazine, covering design, love, creativity, and forgotten moments and people. Now, we offer a collection of simple, yet thoughtfully designed products that emphasize longevity over momentary relevance."

I love to take inspiration from mood boards and they really help to start to get my ideas flowing. I really love how this brand draws attention towards health, wellbeing, the environment, optimism, and durability importance. The website has a wellness tab which features articles that talk about health such as: emotional health, protecting your skin from environmental pollution, and how to keep your nails long and strong. The designs are simple, but their brand stands for something big.

Emu Australia:

"EMU Australia for the last 25 years has been inspired by innovating with sustainable and natural materials, to create quality products that last.

We started out with a simple idea, that nature is the best inventor and we’re just following her lead. Australian Merino wool, leather and Australian sheepskin are world renowned for their super-natural qualities including next-to-skin softness, as well as being renewable, biodegradable and 100% natural. Just as nature evolves, so do we."

I got my first pair of EMU slippers in Indianapolis in a small boutique. One of my best friends used to always show up to water polo practice in the cutest slippers and I always wanted to get some cute ones too. When I the ones that I bought, I knew I had to have them. They are so soft and so comfy, and they support sustainability.
