Why should we only be able to wear something in the Summer or Winter, why not both? Making the transition of moving from Newport Beach, California to Bloomington, Indiana really put into perspective that thing called seasons. As I was regularly accustomed to a usually pretty nice 70 degree day all year round in Southern California, was much different than the freezing winters, actual color changing falls, and all those spring showers I have had to endure in Indiana. I had to ditch my tank tops and shorts and invest in a good winter jacket and boots that would keep my feet warm in the snow. Still, why can't we have those pieces in our wardrobes that we can be able to wear all year round. Trends are hard to keep up with as they are constantly changing and can definitely create a dent in our bank accounts, so I have resulted to shopping at more seasonless clothing brands. I love how in a W Magazine article with Orseund Iris's founder, Alana Johnson, she states that "I treat each single garment like it’s own masterpiece." Unlike fast fashion brands, this business plan is much more sustainable and in my opinion, can lead to less clutter in our closets that leave us asking ourselves once the season is over, why did I even buy that?
These brands usually sell direct-to-consumer, so I wanted to show you some of my non-seasonal brands include Orseund Iris, Djerf Avenue, Are You Am I, Attire The Studio, The Frankie Shop, and even exploring vintage stores. Here are some of my favorite pieces:
Here's the thing, seasonless fashion can be more on the pricier side. Fast fashion brands are trying to recreate what is seen on runways and what is currently trendy, but at the fraction of the cost, and made much faster. On the other hand, many of these seasonless brands have much more transparency, like the Attire Studio garment transparency shown below.
These brand's pieces also last longer and are of better quality compared to fast fashion items. Workers are paid better wages and are ethically produced. And the stories behind the starting of the companies usually come from what the founders love and want to see.
Here are some of my favorite inspiration pics/ videos that I want to recreate with these seasonless pieces.
