I Visited Miami For The First Time, And I’m Convinced I Want To Move There Now

This April was the very first time I had been in Florida. And I don’t know why it took me so long to get down there, I absolutely loved it. I loved the warm weather, the health scene, being so close to the water, and the fashion! I could definitely see myself moving there, in fact I even started looking at apartments even though I still have two more years until I graduate.

We did so many cool things, but I thought that I would share a few highlights from the trip. Here’s a little backstory, so my mom and I arrived on Thursday, April 1st and my sister and dad arrived on Sunday, the 4th, then on Monday, the 5th we drove 3 and 1/2 hours to Key West and then that Friday we drove back to Miami where my dad and sister flew back to California and my mom and I stayed one more night. Confusing, I know.

1) The first full day that we were there, my mom and I walked to breakfast, which became brunch, at the restaurant All Day. I had read about the reviews online and it looked like the kind of brunch place I would love. We had to wait about 10 minutes and they seemed a little understaffed, but the food was really good. I got a matcha latte and The Everyday which is basically your typical bacon, eggs, toast, and we added avocado. The avocado toast and French toast also looked really good.

2) When we went to All Day, we walked there and from the hotel it was about a 5 mile walk including the times we took mini detours to admire giant houses or because I took us down the wrong street. It was honestly such an enjoyable walk and you weren’t counting down the miles until you got there because you got to walk along the water and see the big houses with even bigger yachts. Just for brunch we walked 10 miles and we ended up walking even more after that. My mom and I definitely felt it in the days to come.

3) For dinner on Friday night my mom and I went to Watr at the 1 Hotel which was really pretty and had very good food. It was a bit windy that night on the rooftop, but the staff were super nice and even got me a towel, because they had no blankets, to wrap around myself since I was not expecting to wear a jacket in Miami. We started with the short rib nachos and then moved on to the salad with salmon and the truffle scallop roll and all were amazing. I definitely recommend this place, but go on a night you know it won’t be too windy.

4) Originally, my mom and I were going to go to Miami later in the month, but because of my sister’s Spring Break we got to go earlier and longer. When we were going to go later, my mom and I thought we could turn the weekend into somewhat of a health weekend with lots of working out and eating healthy. I had heard a lot about Pilates being really good for your core and leaning you out so I really wanted to try it so I looked into a bunch of places in Miami and decided on JetSet. Wow, it was really hard, but definitely so good for you, I felt like I was already feeling the effects. I loved it so much I want to get into Pilates when I get home, but for the mean time, I bought an online membership to JetSet which is only $10 a month.

5) Since the first few days were a bit cold and windy when we were there, my mom and I did a little bit of shopping and got to visit the Miami Design District. It was really cool to see all the artwork and how each store was so intricately decorated. We also walked down Lincoln street which has a lot of stores and looked around.

6) One of the nights we went to Cecconi’s at Soho House for dinner which was perfect for getting away from the windy weather as it gave the feel that it was outside, but it was covered and surrounded, almost like a square. This Italian restaurant did not disappoint with their really good truffle pasta and great atmosphere.

7) For Easter brunch, I last minute had to book somewhere and came across Mila. From the pictures it looked really cool and I thought why not? It was absolutely amazing and probably the best place we ate at the entire trip. The menu was a set price and basically there were a bunch of tapas like dishes that you could choose, and order as many as you want. Dish after dish I was amazed at how good everything tasted. We were absolutely stuffed when we were done, but it was all worth it. If you are in Miami, this is a must visit.

8) For dinner one night, we went to Gitano, a modern and healthy Mexican style restaurant. We ordered a few things to share as we weren’t too hungry, but everything tasted really good. The guacamole was super fresh and had these really unique giant tortilla chips that you break off to dip in. We also got the steak, watermelon salad, queso, and shrimp tacos which were all so amazing.

9) I was super excited when I found out that there was a Kith in Miami. The week before we left to go to Miami, the assistant men’s buyer at Kith came and talked for one of the clubs I’m in and it was really cool to hear about the inside works of a brand that I really love. I dragged my mom here twice, once the first full day we were there, and then again on Easter Sunday. I got a few very cool things that I am so excited to wear and I just loved being in there, my lack of shops in Bloomington is really showing. Afterwards my sister and I decided we wanted to try Kith Treats and split the Fiegster which I highly recommend, it has Frosted Flakes, Cocoa Puffs, mini marshmallows, and crushed Oreos.

10) After we got back from Key West, my mom and I stayed at the W Hotel in South Beach and it was probably one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Our room had it’s own little living room and the view was something in itself. I loved everything about the hotel. My mom and I got an early check in and headed straight to the beach, we got two chairs close to the water and spent the day tanning, we didn’t go to the pool, but it was super nice as well. I honestly have no complaints with this hotel.

11) For dinner the last night, my mom and I went to Call Me Gaby. It had a similar feel to the Ivy in LA, which I love, with all of the plants and flowers. My mom and I started with the eggplant with focaccia (absolutely amazing), the I had the salmon for dinner. It was a very nice meal and good since we were trying to eat a little healthier.

12) My mom and I went to this health conscious restaurant, Delicious Raw, three times. We went in for a coffee and decided we had to try the food before we left because it looked so good. We saw they had gluten-free waffles on the menu which we were really excited to try and they were maybe the best waffles I have ever had. They had 16g of protein and were crispy and tasty. I dream of these waffles. I was tempted to ask them for their recipe but I doubt they would give out their secret. I guess I will have to move to Miami so that I can come here everyday to get some good healthy breakfast.

13) When we arrived at the W Hotel, my mom and I were starving so we hit the pool to go to the poolside restaurant. It was super cool because they brought the food out in these little containers. The food was really tasty and it was a cool atmosphere because the day was super nice and if you haven’t seen the pool at the W, go look it up right now.

I am so happy I got to go on this amazing trip and get to experience a new place. This is lots of highlights from the trip and if you go be sure to check some of them out!
