Trip to Catalina Island

There was one big thing we all learned, but sort of already knew, on the boat ride over to Catalina Island, definitely leave early in the morning to avoid wind and the big waves that follow. The trip there was, without a doubt, bumpy and wet thanks to the waves splashing over the front of the boat. I think we made a world record of slowest time to get there in a motorboat of about 3.5 hours. We were definitely thankful when we made it to the island and the first thing my friends and I did was jump into the ocean.

My family and I were joined by good friends of ours who have four kids, the oldest being a year younger than me and one of my closest friends who also has a blog called This Is Me Paris that you need to check out.

Back to Avalon in Catalina. We hung out in the water for a bit, swimming to the buoy to get our exercise in. Afterwards we headed back to our AirBnB to get ready for dinner, and we were starving considering we hadn't eaten since breakfast. We went to a Mexican restaurant and it was one of the most hilarious experiences I've gone through. From mispronouncing fajitas to writing my friend's number on a dollar bill to give to the waiter, our laughs drowned out the fact that the food wasn't anything amazing.

We decided to get some ice cream at Lloyd's after and went for a long walk to work it off. The bay was so beautiful at sunset and we couldn't resist taking a few photos.

The next day we woke up bright and early and decided to go on a walk. It was just the moms and us and we walked about three miles before the moms decided to head back to the house and my friend wanted to continue walking until her Apple watch hit 5 miles. I am pretty sure my friend's watch is off though because that walk felt more like 7 miles.

When we got back to the house everyone had eaten and was ready to get on the boat. They were quite excited to go on the boat so they left early while we ate breakfast and got ready. When we got there, the raft was blown up and we were ready to hit the water.

Some of the best moments of that trip were sitting on the front of the boat riding along the coast of Catalina and blasting throwback songs.

We drove all the way down to Twin Harbors where we got lunch, to-go, but they didn't have too many gluten-free, dairy-free options. We brought the food to another cove where we anchored and my dad pulled out some sausages he had brought and cooked them up for me and served them with this amazing Tomato Sauce with Truffle from Trader Joe's. Highly recommend.

We swam around this little cove, always thinking of the sharks that may be under us. It was so pretty and peaceful and we had snorkel masks to see all of the little fishes below us. At this point I knew that my lips were as chapped as they could get and my nose was about to get third degree burns, so we headed back to Avalon.

The next day we got up early to go on another walk and got smoothies on the way back at Cafe Metrople. We wanted to go to the Descanso Beach Club to hang out for the day, but they were pretty much sold out. Instead we went parasailing and then had a nice and relaxing day at the beach.

We decided to get sushi for dinner and later that night, while the dads were a bit tipsy, they attempted to make crepes. Many funny videos were created that night and I hold my record for not being beaten in Connect 4.

The next day we left earlier because we had definitely learned our lesson and it only took about an hour to get back. It was honestly such a fun trip and one that I'll remember.
